Astrid Linder is a Visiting Professor at FIA University and Professor of Traffic Safety at the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute and adjunct professor at Chalmers University of Technology. A global leader in crash safety and biomechanics, her research addresses gender disparities in vehicle safety standards. She is best known for developing EvaRID, the first average-sized female virtual crash test dummy, aimed at improving safety outcomes for women—who face significantly higher risks in crashes than men. Her work has challenged long-standing industry norms by advocating for equal representation in crash testing protocols and has influenced regulatory and safety practices internationally. Astrid’s contributions have earned her the EU Champions of Transport Research Award, the U.S. Government Award for Safety Engineering Excellence, and a place on the BBC’s 100 Women list in 2023. Her expertise spans occupant kinematics, mathematical modelling, dynamic testing, and policy guidance for equitable safety design.
